At tonight's team meeting, team member Herbert Huntley suggested an item for the Rescue Bag, which is suitable for the Go Bag, as well: two heavy-duty black garbage bags. These can serve the obvious functions -- collecting garbage, storing dirty laundry, doubling as a raincoat, etc. -- but in a WMD situation, where the weapon is chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear, a garbage bag can also provide a receptacle for contaminated clothing. A second bag, cut up, can be used to cover one's shoes and sealed around the ankles or legs with rubber bands or duct tape, if there is hazardous material on the ground.

I really like the idea of a "laminated ICS chart." Being able to have it visible for staff in a shelter, for example, would make it easy to post assignments especially when shifts are changing. Everyone, especially those not familiar with ICS, would understand the chain of command and who to go to for what, instead of always bugging the IC!!! Wow! They might know who the IC is!! I would have killed for that during Irene......

Thanks for your post, John. Lance was invited to submit an article, which I hope we can post very soon as a stand-alone piece. Be sure to check back. Btw, the team member monitoring emergency announcements on his radio was at work, where he had to be.

Let me see if I understand the above post:
-One talks about the "Book" and custodial staff (admittedly important)
-One recalls some excellent parts of the evacuation.
-One was sitting home listening to his radio?
-One was contributing and tweeting
-One was a guest on the Bryan Letter show and
-Lance, who ran the largest shelter agreeably very successfully is mentioned at the bottom 3 lines.

That seems unbalanced.

It was great to see so many out in the Upper West Side to show their support. It's always good to see an onslaught of community support, especially for emergency response teams.
