Traffic Training for NYC CERT Volunteers

This past Saturday, it was Traffic Training, conducted by the NYC Office of Emergency Management (OEM) in conjunction with the NYPD. The exercise in rerouting and managing vehicular traffic took place on First Avenue between East 19 and 21 Streets in Manhattan. Twenty-two CERT volunteers from around the city participated.

Disaster Simulation at Penn Station for FDNY, USMC, and CERT Volunteers

NYC CERT volunteers provided the necessary realism for a simulated disaster in Penn Station, in New York City, on the evening of September 23, for a group of FDNY and USMC (U.S. Marine Corps) personnel. The scenario was a dirty bomb explosion on one of the trains, resulting in numerous casualties.

Recalling the I-95 Tour Bus Disaster — CERT Volunteers Were There

In the early morning hours of March 12, a tour bus accident occurred on I-95 on the outskirts of New York City. The bus had been returning to New York’s Chinatown from the Mohegan Sun casino in Connecticut with 31 passengers, mostly Chinese tourists, when the crash happened.
